DESCRIPTION:

The Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP), a 501(c)(3) organization, is seeking a part-time accountant/bookkeeper for their office in Nashville, Tennessee. This position reports directly to the TACP Executive Director.

This is an in-office position. Candidate should be available to report to work at the TACP office 20 hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire. Partial or intermittent telework may be available after a probationary period. Attendance at TACP meetings, conferences, training and other events may also be required.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Use of QuickBooks accounting software to manage and maintain association financial records
  • Process employee payroll through ADP
  • Handle Accounts Payable (AP) duties, ensuring timely payments, accurate records and supporting documentation
  • Assist with the development of financial reports, including profit and loss statement, yearly budget and cost analysis plans
  • Reconcile and paying credit card statement with supporting documentation
  • Understanding and submitting necessary federal, state and local taxes
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of multiple income sources
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of expenditures
  • Working with CPA Accounting firm for yearly audit and filing federal income tax returns

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A four-year degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or finance is preferred.
  • At least two years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified herein, preferably in a law enforcement, government, non-profit or other related field is preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of accounting principles; finance and fiscal management; and budget/cost analysis
  • Knowledge of federal and state grant reporting requirements is preferred.
  • Must have proficiency in written and oral communication and excellent analytical skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and timeliness in meeting deadlines.
  • Must have strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Must have ability to understand and interpret technical materials concerning law enforcement and criminal justice processes as well as learn and apply technical terminology and information.

A valid Tennessee Driver license is required at all times while employed by TACP.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience and expertise in QuickBooks software
  • Experience with ADP payroll system
  • Experience and expertise with Excel spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Skill in detecting and intercepting problems and issues as they arise
  • Skill in finance and fiscal management, budget/cost analysis
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals
  • Ability to achieve and sustain high performance level with minimal supervision

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Work is primarily sedentary indoors in an office environment. Limited travel may be required for meetings, conferences, and training.
